Dundee's 4J Studios got in touch this morning to let us know that their latest title - Star Trek: Conquest - is now on sale in the USA. Described as a blend of (intense) action and strategy, the game uses the WiiRemote and Nunchuk to create a control system that we can see Captain Kirk enjoying, but Captain Picard - maybe not so much ("Where's the 'negotiate' button?)
From the official press release:
Take control of Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Cardassian, Dominion,
and Breen forces and lead them in a campaign to control the Galaxy, one
planet at a time. You can build and manage your growing empire in
turn-based strategy, fully utilizing the Wii Remote™ as you select and
maneuver your Starships throughout the large, galactic map.
Strategically,
you must effectively manage limited resources to expand your empire.
You decide how to best achieve objectives by ordering your fleets and
admirals, building support structures, researching technology, and
engaging your enemies in combat.
Once battle is initiated, Conquest
switches to a ship level tactical view allowing direct command of your
ships as you engage in real-time combat. While maneuvering your
Starship with the Nunchuk™, you can take direct aim and fire away with
the Wii Remote™.
Sounds intriguing. We're not sure how it squares with the prime directive, but anything which lets us take the Enterprise out and actually blow things up is going to get a welcoming smile from a lot of people.
There's even an official interview with 4J's Frank Arnott with more in-depth details about the game.
Anticipation for Star Trek: Conquest is running high within the tight knit Star Trek community and we're expecting the first reviews any time now.
We're told that the European launch is due 'soon', so you never know, your Christmas season might include giving the Cardassian's a good what for, turning the Federation into a much-feared, military-led invasion force and knocking the hell out of the Borg. Go on, you know you want to...
