videoGaiden - The Awards Show

Avn_award The actual show went up online on the 31st but, what with phone calls galore from journalists wanting dirt on the games business and other journalists wanting financial information on major developers, it sort of passed us by.

Which is wrong!  Any sort of responsible news organisation would have MADE time.  However, here's the link anyway.  We're very sorry.

Another slap-up job by the CV/vG chaps.  An excellent result all round.  No awards for Realtime Worlds or Dynamo Games, which is a shame.  Though hopefully the Scottish Games Awards later this year will rectify that.

This is, as Rab and Ryan point out, the ONLY official BBC videogame awards ceremony.  That makes it pretty special.

Plus Jonathan Coulton's on it (Portal won best music award).  So we're sold.

The HYPE section is also a mini masterpiece.

Visit the site and see for yourself.

videoGaiden Game Awards 2008

Rab_n_ryan Rab and Ryan are rounding off their current run of videoGaiden with the inaugural videoGaiden Game Awards 2008.

The chaps have been extremely even-handed and fair, so there's not a single mention of Realtime Worlds, Dynamo Games or Even Tag in there anywhere.  Instead they've concentrated on the smaller, less well known titles and are continuing their mission to spread the love.

Rather than try emulate their wacky style or parody their unique zany humour, we'll just cut and paste the press release from Gamespress...

From The Sublime...

Consolevaniafluff_piece We've not mentioned the Consolevania Fluff Piece on the blog before, but it seems like the right time to let the few people who haven't yet come across it, know what the hell it is - and where to find it.

Also, strange things are happening at Consolevania, which makes us fear for the boys.  Really.

So, what on earth IS the Consolevania Fluff Piece?  It's a short film about the games industry in Scotland.  It was shot in three days the week before this year's Edinburgh Interactive Festival and then edited together with great skill and speed by the Consolevania team.

We received a bit of funding from S------- E--------- to do something to help promote the industry in Scotland and instead of sponsoring a party or paying for a logos n' gameplay type Tops Of The Pops video, they agreed to something shot by Consolevania.

After that, it was a simple matter of e-mailing everyone in Scotland and pulling in as many people as possible to get them on film in the single days we could spend in Dundee, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The response from everyone was incredible and we got something like 90% of all the companies in Scotland involved. We missed a few out, because they couldn't make it on the day in question, or they were on holiday or they were shy.

Only one company didn't actually reply.  Can you guess who that was, readers?

We then showed the film at the festival.  It's now online for the world to see and the response on the day, on the Consolevania site and from the people in the media who have seen it, has been universally positive.  Even the companies involved are all happy.  Everyone's asking about next year.  We may have to start a PayPal tips jar for that one however, but we'll keep you posted.

However, something a little odd is happening over at CV.  The third episode of season three appeared, disappeared, reappeared, was denied, pirated and then reappeared again, but secretly (shh).

It's one of the oddest episodes ever and makes the rest of the Consolevania catalogue look like Changing Rooms.  You can't find it on the CV website, but thanks to the miracle of the Internet, you can watch it here.

New Consolevania Online now

DexterOK, we're a week late with this one, but it's worth the wait.  The Consolevania team have struck again.  'Independents Day', the new episode of the world's most honest and Glaswegian games show has just gone up online.

After the success of the show's xxx-rated adult episode, this one looks at independent gaming and developers instead of the usual mainstream consoles and publishers.

Just to give it that edge, the team filmed it all on one day, the 4th of July.  Independence day.  Around Glasgow.  Hardcore or what?

You can download the new episode here (for bit torrent) or here (for download through your browser)
