Game In Scotland - More Details

Game_logo_160x160 More details have gone up online for this year's Game In Scotland event, which takes place in Dundee at the end of this month.  Details of all of the sessions and panel discussions are now live, with some presentations from companies you may not have come across before.

If you're interested in a job in the games industry, then this is the place to be.  It even takes place on a Saturday, so you don't have to skip your dull and mundane Monday - Friday McJob.

It's even moving outside the mainstream games market, with the guys from WeeWorld making an appearance for the first time.  If you've not come across WeeWorld in the past, then you should go and check them out.  It's like Facebook crossed with Cartoon Network, with added fun parts.

13:00 Let the games begin!  Doors open, mill around the stands and chat with companies.  Don't forget your CV and any demos!
13:30 Welcome to the games industry.  A brief insight into working in the Scottish games industry by industry veteran, Chris Van Der Kuyl

Get a REAL Job - Game In Scotland 2008 Confirmed

E3_crowd Scottish Enterprise Tayside has just announced the date for this year's Game In Scotland recruitment fair.

It takes place on Saturday 29th of March at Fat Sams in Dundee.  Kick off is at 1pm.

If you're not familiar with the whole Game In Scotland event - shame on you.  You really should be.

The official announcement describes it like this:

Game in Scotland offers anyone interested in working in the exciting, growing sector an opportunity to meet with Scotland’s top games development studios and hear about the variety of job opportunities they have on offer now.

Bosses and staff from various games companies across Scotland – including console, mobile and interactive TV development studios – will be at the event

There are two sides to the event.  There's a stand area, where you can actually meet the various companies working in Scotland - drop off CV's and generally mingle with Scotland's glittering gaming superheroes.  Then there's a conference/lecture side of things, where you can hear from many of the companies active in Scotland and the people behind them.

The line-up of presentations and panels is still being finalised, but so far the line-up looks like this...

13:00 Let the games begin!  Doors open, mill around the stands and chat with companies.  Don't forget your CV and any demos!
13:30 Welcome to the games industry.  A brief insight into working in the Scottish games industry by an industry veteran!
14:00 Who we are, what we do.  Presentation by Scottish games company tbc.
14:20 Who we are, what we do.  Presentation by Scottish games company tbc.
15:00 Who we are, what we do.  Presentation by Scottish games company tbc.
15:30 tbc.  Panel session with audience Q&A
16:15 tbc.  Panel session with audience Q&A
16:45 networking

Since the companies already confirmed as attending include: Realtime Worlds, Denki, Outerlight, Dynamo Games, Tag Games, Digital Goldfish, TPLD, 4J, Codeplay and Cohort, it's odds on you'll see several sessions worth attending.

It's only fair to warn you that your humble editor has once again agreed to chair a couple of panels and generally give the place a sort of louche 70's rock star (note the space) sort of feel.

As of yesterday, Scottish Enterprise confirmed that they had over 300 people registered to attend, including many from other parts of the UK and overseas.

SET will even help interested students with travel.  If you can scare up 15 people from your university or academic institution then they'll sort out a bus to get you there - and back.

Your parents may not understand - or approve - but from experience we can tell you quite definitively that working in videogames really does beat having a real job.

We'll be running more information and updates from GIS as the appear, plus we have an exclusive interview with the team behind the event.  Well, Donna anyway, Carri is off on an exotic holiday this week.

If you're interested - and you SHOULD be - you can register here.
