Part of the Talent Arcade event, which took place within the Interactive Festival a couple of weeks ago, was The Brief -
a scheme to discover, train, and develop new gaming talent in Scotland.
Four Scottish companies took part and all put forward a working brief which will allow creative new talent to put forward their proposals on how to meet them. Each brief was very different, covering areas from designing a game for the new iPhone, through to creating a way to teach engineering skills through gameplay.
All of the details can be found on the Talent Arcade web page.
The prizes are superb. You can actually win places on The Gameplay bootcamp, which takes place in October PLUS work placement within one of the four companies.
It's basically taking you by the hand, allowing you to show just how damn creative and clever you are - and then giving you a job in the games industry.
If you want any more than that, you're obviously a miserable sod.
You have to be over 18 and a resident of the UK to enter (oh and not an employee of Channel 4, EIF or any of the four companies...), but you can enter any of the briefs - as many times as you wish.
This is a huge opportunity for creative types across Scotland and the UK. There are ways into the television, film and other areas of the media; but to date, there have not been a huge numbers of ways into the games business.
If you know anyone who's interested in breaking into the games world, who's always said they have a great idea for a game - then tell them, e-mail them this article or point them at the 4Talent website.
The deadline for entries is the 15th of September.
You can read the full press release after the jump...
