The majority of the gaming world - consumers and industry types - were heartened this morning to hear that the notorious Jack Thomson (comedy lawyer) has been disbarred and will not be practising law for the next ten years.
Jack, in case you've missed his sizzling path across the interactive firmament, has taken issue with the violence, adult content, swearing, lawlessness, godlessness and general moral turpitude of games - and has responded in many novel and innovative ways, which you wouldn't expect - even from a US attorney.
He has in the past written a letter to the mother of the Take 2 CEO, advised a journalist to molest children directly (instead of via videogames) and referred to Rockstar North as single malt sipping sociopaths.
...and there's a great deal more where that came from.
Along the way he's appeared on various television news reports and across the mainstream media calling for tighter restrictions on gaming content and the horsewhipping of various individuals (we're paraphrasing here, but you get the gist).
So, he can no longer bring his zany law-based antics to court, but of course the problem now is that in some ways he's now unconstrained and can devote himself full-time to rabble rousing, buffoonery and activism.
Of course, the positive aspect of this is that he's now discredited himself so widely, that he's unlikely to be taken entirely seriously by any news organisation (outside the US of course), but he'll have the time to think up all new ways to make his beliefs more widely known.
We're thinking of offering him a column on SG.biz...
