Christmas Roundup - Specialmove

Andy_specialmove_3 And Christmas keeps crawling closer...  By now, according to Home Circle, you should have finished your shopping, have the wrapping planned, cards sent and your figgy pudding maturing in the airing cupboard.  By now most serious companies have had at least one Christmas party and will be expecting employees to spend at least 1 - 1.5 hours in the pub most lunchtimes.

If YOUR employer is being unseasonal about this, you should complain.  Vehemently.  Walk into the manager's office and thump the desk.  Shout.  Then slam your door on the way out.  Or change jobs.  If you prefer this second option, then you can talk to Andy Campbell at Specialmove in Glasgow.  You might want to gloss over your poor timekeeping, aggression and alcohol dependency though.  Andy came through with a very fast turnaround for today's Christmas Roundup, so there will be something special slipped into his stocking later this month...

Andy, over to you:

1) What are your three highlights from 2007?

  • The results – 2007 was a great year, at Specialmove, we launched our brand new website, we saw our client numbers grow, our candidate numbers grow, our turnover increase and our profitability increase.
  • Heading to GDC with other companies from Scotland with support from Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International
  • Watching England get put out of Euro 2008

2) Three less pleasing moments/events from 2007?

  • Getting into ‘bunfights’ with other recruiters who send candidates into companies without consulting with the candidates first
  • The proliferation of recruitment ‘spam’ hitting the inboxes of companies and candidates alike from less than capable recruiters
  • Watching Scotland get put out of Euro 2008

3) Three things you're either looking forward to, or would like to see in 2008?

  • Growing Specialmove in the UK with more staff and opening up our new North American office in California
  • Helping to grow the other companies in Scotland by supplying them with some great new staff
  • Looking forward to the release of Little Big Planet

4) What two gifts would you most like to see in your stocking come Christmas?

  • Call of Duty 4 on Xbox 360.
  • The new Nabaztag/tag… Yip it’s a wifi bunny that reads you the news, wakes you up and a million other cool things

5)  What should we look forward to from Specialmove in the next 12 months?

  • Its all about growth and expansion on the company front. As mentioned we are looking to grow staff numbers in the UK and open up our new office in California to tap into the US market. Specialmove aims to be the premier player in recruitment in the games industry. We are looking to double in size and turnover in 12 months. On the personal front, I’m looking to finally get down to 12 stone again… and get fit with it. So its back to the gym and cutting out the Guinness!
